The authors of a recent editorial in the NEJM stated that "The evidence supporting the call to reduce salt intake as a means of preventing cardiovascular disease is compelling," and called on policymakers "to swiftly implement public health interventions that result in population-wide reductions in salt intake." The author of a commentary in JAMA took issue with this approach, noting "the lack of supporting data from large, population-based randomized clinical trials."
