In most cases when a patient undergoes a biopsy on their esophagus any cancer found is located too late to be treated. A recent development could help doctors find the disease before it is too late.
Swathi Eluri, MD, from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine described testing of this research during Digestive Disease Week in Washington, DC. Eluri said the research focused on patients with Barrett's Esophagus, which is another rare condition. Out of 69 patients in the study 23 progressed to cancer according to Eluri.
