Publisher Emeritus

Resident & Staff Physician and Surgical Rounds

Robert (Bob) Thomas Grant, a Korean War veteran and retired lieutenant commander of the US Navy Reserve, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2008. He was 76 years old. Robert Grant served as publisher of Resident & Staff Physician and Surgical Rounds for over 10 years, until his retirement in 2005.

During his tenure on both publications, his compassionate and generous nature made a lasting impression on colleagues and clients. In the online guest book set up in Bob's memory, one colleague wrote "One of my fondest memories [of Bob] is from 2002. I'd been having a rough time at work, and he showed up in my office after lunch and handed me a lottery ticket to cheer me up. That's the kind of person that he was. I was very sad to hear of his passing. I will always remember him fondly."

Bob graduated from St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights, New York. Following this, he attended naval reserve officer's training. He was commissioned as an ensign in California and served on the aircraft carrier USS Bennington. In May 1954, Bob survived a shipboard explosion outside Quonset Point, Rhode Island, that claimed more than 100 lives. He remained in the US Navy Reserve for 22 years. On retiring from the Navy, Bob pursued a career in medical advertising and publishing.

The employees of Resident & Staff Physician and Surgical Rounds, and all those whose lives Bob touched, mourn his loss, but we are grateful to have had the privilege of working with him. Donations can be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association, 333 7th Avenue, 17th floor, New York, NY 10003.
