Dr. Hiroo Takayama on Referring Patients to Heart Failure Specialists

In this video, Hiroo Takayama, MD, PhD, assistant professor of surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, discusses when primary care physicians and general cardiologists should refer patients to heart failure specialists. He explains that frequently, patients are referred to specialists when their disease is too far advanced for specialists to help them. Once kidney and liver dysfunction begin to develop, he adds, it is definitely time to refer.
