Gautam Shrikhande, MD, assistant professor of Clinical Surgery, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, attending surgeon, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, New York, NY, discusses the benefits of endovascular aortic repair.
Dr. Shrikhande says with the endovascular repair of aneurysms, patients can oftentimes go home a day or two after the procedure. Other benefits include high tolerability and the ability to perform the procedure with localized anesthesia. This minimally invasive procedure is also safe for elderly patients or patients with other medical risk factors can have the procedure. Dr. Shrikhande also discusses grafts used to treat aortic aneurysms.
In this video, Roman Nowygrod, MD, FACS, professor of surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, discusses the challenge of abdominal aortic aneurysms, which tend to be asymptomatic until they are close to rupture and have a very high death rate if they do rupture.
