While the diagnosis of heart failure is common in cardiology there have been significant developments in the field which allows patients to live for many years with the condition.

According to Allen Anderson, MD, from Northwestern Medicine some of the factors determining how long patients can live with the condition is the cause of their heart failure and also their age. These factors can also determine how likely they are to respond to treatment. Patients diagnosed today with heart failure are also likely to have better success in treatment than those diagnosed 10 or 20 years ago. Lifestyle, Anderson added, is also a factor in a patient's quality of life with heart failure.
