Technology may be advancing faster than people can keep up with but there are still times when traditional surgical methods are preferred over newer technologies.

Building on the traditional methods to help improve the field overall, Kia Shahlaie, MD, PhD, from the UC Davis Health System said there is a considerable amount of training that goes into this field to be able to implement the newest technology in the most effective way possible. This includes not only medical school, residency, and fellowships, but also much more work as part of their continuing education.
