The search for newer antimicrobial agents is a focus of those looking to help prevent patients from developing potentially dangerous conditions while admitted to the hospital.

As of now the US Food and Drug Administration has approved two such agents, but Thomas M. File, Jr., from Summa Health System said he hopes to see that number grow in the near future in order to better treat more potential at risk patients. File said they are also working to ensure that the organisms will not cause as much damage to the host systems makgin them less of an overall health threat to the patients.
