Pharmacy Job Market Will Expand by 17% through 2018
Pharmacy Careers Special Issue Spotlights a Growing Pharmacy Job Market and Provides Resources for Pharmacy Students

PLAINSBORO, NJ (March 18, 2010)//. Unemployment may be high nationwide, but not in the field of pharmacy. From now until 2018, employment of pharmacists is expected to grow by 17%, a rate that is much faster than the occupational average. The just-released Spring 2010 issue of Pharmacy Careers, published by Pharmacy Times, provides a look at this trend and offers a host of material to help pharmacy students tap into this expanding job market.

Pharmacy Careers offers students a color-coded map of the national demand for pharmacists by state. Wisconsin, West Virginia, California, and North Dakota offer the best prospects for new pharmacists, though Pharmacy Careers reports that throughout the country the supply of available positions is generally balanced or in the favor of job-seekers.

Once pharmacy students identify where the jobs are, Pharmacy Careers shows them the best way to secure a position. In “Job Search Navigation Skills: Understanding Today’s Economic Lay of the Land,” students learn to start the job hunt early and to take advantage of networking opportunities. Pharmacy Careers also profiles 7 different career paths—from community pharmacy to health systems pharmacy to government pharmacy—that will help students make the right career choice.

The Spring 2010 issue also includes 2 exciting technology sections that are new to Pharmacy Careers and can help pharmacy students in this digital age—“App Wrap” and “Gadget Guide.” Students can look to Pharmacy Careers to help them find the latest technological devices and smartphone applications designed for pharmacists to enhance their academic, personal, and professional lives.

Pharmacy Times editor-in-chief Fred Eckel, RPh, MS, notes that pharmacy students are entering the field during “revolutionary times,” with issues such as health care reform and medication therapy management poised to change the profession. Pharmacy students can stay informed on all the latest developments in the job market and in the field of pharmacy with Pharmacy Careers and Pharmacy Times.
