Gout: A Primary Care Primer

In this three-part podcast series, Joseph Lieberman, III, MD, MPH, professor of family medicine at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, discusses the causes and symptoms of gout, explores how new research is changing our understanding of this disease, and reviews new advances in gout treatment and management.

In part 1, he describes “the pathogenesis of gout and the risk factors for the disease.” Part 2 focuses on diagnosis, with “real-world advice about when and how to make a presumptive diagnosis, indications for synovial fluid analysis and other studies, and which disorders to consider in the differential.” Part 3 deals with strategies for treating acute attacks and flares and preventive measures.
