When to Repair or Replace Knee Joints
This video featured on a local ABC station highlights the growing interest in ankle anthroplasty. Dr. Steven Haddad, an orthopedic surgeon at the Illinois Bone and Joint Instituteis, discusses the procedure and the main differences between ankle anthropasty and ankle fusion surgery.
With the fusion surgery, stress may be placed on other joints leading to arthritis; and, with anthroplasty or replacement, a younger patient may have to receive multiple replacements over time because devices have a life span of about 10 years.
