5 Top Podcasts for Physicians

Article

The world of physician-focused podcasts is as vast as it is fascinating. These five podcasts stand out as some of the best.

This article is taken directly from The Freedom Formula for Physicians podcast. You can find the links directly to each of the top podcasts by clicking here or by clicking below.

Over the last year, the world of podcasting has been fun for me to explore, navigate, and even create my own podcast. I listen to a whole bunch of podcasts. Below are the ones I recommend specifically for physicians.

These are the Top 5 Podcasts for Doctors (in my opinion!):

What were the criteria? I whittled the list down to a number of different categories. Some podcasts are focused on interviews, some podcasts are focused on medical issues, some are hosted by physicians, and some are hosted by journalists and societies.

The FIRST podcast is done by an ER physician and shares intriguing thoughts on medicine & life.

The SECOND podcast is hosted by a young physician who focuses on the future of medicine & entrepreneurship

The THIRD podcast is done by a pair of doctors who focus on treatments

The FOURTH podcast is a done by a journal that I found fascinating

The FIFTH podcast sounds a bit like NPR, but has lots of good content

As I went through podcasts, checking what was interesting and what was not interesting, the first podcast one I found particularly interesting was “Everyday Medicine for Physicians,” hosted by Dr. Ryan Stanton. The podcast covered so many different issues. He updates once every month or so.

My favorite episodes were No. 47 Faith in Medicine, No. 45 Ending EMS Diversion, and No. 42 Media Crash Course.

The second podcast that I particularly enjoyed was called “The Modern MD.” In this podcast, the host, Dr. Greg Goodman does a good job of looking at different issues that face physicians. Where it really focuses is on the future and entrepreneurial physicians. I thought that was particularly fascinating.

My favorite episodes were No. 20 Direct Primary Care World Domination and No. 23 Bundled Payments.

The third podcast that I thought was particularly fascinating was “The Best Science Medicine Podcast”. This podcast explores techniques and thoughts and was more open than some other journal podcasts I am about to mention here in a moment. Make sure to check out that podcast.

The fourth podcast I am going to mention here is the New England Journal of Medicine’s podcast. I thought there was a whole host of issues of interest for physicians. They publish really regularly whereas some of the other ones I’ve mentioned earlier are once every month or once every two months. Make sure to check out the NEJM or the New England Journal of Medicine.

Lastly, the other one that I thought was dry, and wasn’t very entertaining, but talks about a lot of issues for physicians is the JAMA network’s “Author Interviews.” It’s very much like a PBS or NPR-type program and tends to move slowly. It’s not really captivating. But, my goodness they talk about a whole lot of issues that I think would be interesting to physicians and then what books to check out.

So, there you go, you guys, the Top 5 Podcasts for Doctors. Make sure to check out to check out my post on DoctorFreedomPodcast.com where I have links to all of the websites. Make sure to subscribe on iTunes and check them out further.
