There are those who say that your room on vacation doesn’t matter — you won’t spend any time in it anyway, right?

Well, being the hotel geeks that we are, we have to respectfully disagree. That kind of logic is perfectly fine if you’re hopping hostels; but the truth is, the hotel room is a major component of a vacation experience for most of us. And if that hotel room provides a stunning outlook of the place you traveled all that way to see, then all the better. That way you won’t miss a moment of experiencing your wonderful destination.

These nine views aren’t just nice, they’re jaw-dropping — taking your vacation to a whole new level.

St. LuciaJade Mountain Resort

The guest rooms at Jade Mountain are among the most luxurious in the world, and all have a missing fourth wall featuring stunning views of the Caribbean Sea and St. Lucia’s iconic Pitons. Most also offer private infinity pools. This romantic resort is an architectural marvel, built into a mountain about 100 feet above the sea.

Florence, ItalyPalazzo Niccolini al Duomo

If seeing the Duomo in Florence is a priority, you can’t do much better than booking a room right next to it. Many rooms at the Palazzo Niccolini al Duomo have incredible views of Florence’s famous Renaissance cathedral. The hotel itself was built centuries ago as the home of a Florentine merchant family, and charming historic details such as wood-beamed ceilings and frescoed walls are intact.

Sedona, ArizonaL’Auberge de Sedona

L’Auberge de Sedona has one of the most stunning natural settings in not just the Southwest, but the country, with the picturesque Oak Creek running underneath shady trees, and Sedona’s soaring red rocks suspended in the background. Plenty of cottages have red rock views, but those from the Vista Suite (and its tub!) are exceptional.

New York CityTrump International Hotel and Tower

This decadent luxury hotel across the street from Central Park offers dramatic park views from many of the rooms, such as the Two-Bedroom Park View Suite (pictured). The rooms feature rich woods, velvet curtains, crystal chandeliers in the dining areas, and a color scheme incorporating shades of purple, blue and cream.

Paris, FranceHotel Plaza Athenee

The world-renowned luxury hotel Plaza Athenee — a part of the Dorchester Collection — is synonymous with Parisian elegance and good taste. Rooms overlook Avenue Montaigne, linked with high-end shops and chestnut trees, and some have partial views of the Eiffel Tower; the aptly named Eiffel Suite has a picture-perfect view.

CaliforniaHyatt Carmel Highlands

The 144-room cliff-side Hyatt Carmel Highlands offers awe-inspired views unrivaled anywhere else around Monterey and Carmel. Accommodations are seemingly as roomy as the stunning ocean views they offer, most complete with working fireplaces and stocked with simple yet modern amenities. The Sunset Suite even has gorgeous ocean views from the tub.

Jackson Hole, WyomingSpring Creek Ranch

Set in a wildlife refuge more than 700 feet above the Jackson Valley, the Spring Creek Ranch has arguably the most stunning views of the Tetons in the area. The Harvest Dance Suite has a particularly gorgeous overlook. The delicious, popular restaurant and the excellent heated outdoor pool are also not to be missed.

JamaicaJamaica Inn

A small, romantic resort that once drew Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller, the Jamaica Inn is about quiet luxury — a single thatch-roofed bar, a small pool and beautiful rooms with soft, colonial décor and oversize terraces. Every room has an ocean view, and the Premier Verandah Suite is right by the sea.

Sausalito, CaliforniaCavallo Point

This historic property under the Golden Gate Bridge offers sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay skyline. It was originally built as an army base in the late 1800s, and Historic Rooms were all formerly officers’ residences. Contemporary Rooms, on the other hand, were built into the hillside, and have great views, gas fireplaces and floor-to-ceiling windows. Many have sweeping views of the bridge.
