Apple's New iPhone Looks Familiar

Article

At the latest Apple reveal, the company didn't unveil the new iPhone 5 like many had hoped and instead showed the new iPhone 4S. Although it's identical outside to the iPhone 4, it's the inside that matters.

Typically, Apple’s launch events are shrouded in mystery and in the aftermath the company’s fans are in awe of the newest device. But after Tuesday’s event, there are more than a few people who were let down when Apple announced that sixteen months after the last model, the new iPhone was the iPhone 4S and not the iPhone 5.

The new phone is remarkably similar to the iPhone 4, and from the outside it looks identical.

Apple also revealed Siri, a voice-controlled personal assistant. You can use it to speak into the microphone to enter text or ask questions that the assistant can help with.

“Siri helps you make calls, send text messages or email, schedule meetings and reminders, make notes, search the Internet, find local businesses, get directions and more,” according to a company statement. “You can also get answers, find facts and even perform complex calculations just by asking.”

The function is actually similar to something already available on Android and Microsoft phones.

And this time around the iPhone isn’t only available on Verizon and AT&T. Spring is also getting in on the action. The lowest model (16GB) is available for $199, the 32GB is $299 and the 64GB is $399. And if you’re still interested in an iPhone, you can get one of those for $99 or an iPhone 3GS free with a two-year contract.

The phone is available starting Oct. 14, with preorders beginning Oct. 7.

Instead, it’s the inside of this baby that counts. It’s powered by the same processor that’s in the iPad 2 and the camera is infinitely better with 60% more pixels, according to TechCrunch.
