The popular blog, ‘Wachter’s World’ will be among the many resources available to physicians on the HCPLive Network

Plainsboro, NJ — February 16, 2011— HCPLive.com announces the addition of Robert Wachter, MD, one of the most influential leaders in hospital medicine, to its network. Beginning Monday 2/21, the blog, “Wachter’s World,” will be featured on the HCPLive website. Wachter blogs on behalf of the Society of Hospital Medicine on “Wachter’s World,” which is hosted by the society’s publisher Wiley-Blackwell, the scientific, technical, medical , and scholarly business of the global publisher, John Wiley & Sons, Inc..

Published by Intellisphere, LLC, HCPLive has long been a leading source of news and information for busy health care professionals to help them provide better care to their patients.

By partnering with Wachter, who is often considered the “father” of the hospitalist field, HCPLive will continue its tradition of partnering with leading figures in health care and providing peer-to-peer news and opinion on its site. “Wachter’s World” provides insight and analysis on issues that uniquely affect physicians, nurses, and patients in the hospital and clinic settings. Among the many topics that will be addressed in the blog are hospital care, quality improvement, health policy, transparency and reporting, education, industry, and information technology.

“Bob Wachter is the pre-eminent thought leader in the rapidly growing field of hospital medicine, and the ideal partner for HCPLive as we expand our reach in the hospitalist community,” said Mike Hennessy, founder and CEO of MJH & Associates, which owns Intellisphere. “His unique voice and insights will provide the perfect complement to our site and help HCPLive become the ultimate destination for hospital-based physicians.”

Wachter is professor and associate chairman of the department of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, where he holds the nation’s first endowed chair in hospital medicine. He is also chief of the division of hospital medicine and chief of the medical service at UCSF Medical Center. Wachter is credited with coining the term “hospitalist” in a 1996 New England Journal of Medicine article. He has published 200 articles and six books in the fields of quality, safety, and health policy, and is past president of the Society of Hospital Medicine.

Wachter is also a best-selling author and editor of the federal government’s two leading websites on patient safety. He has appeared on many television and radio shows, been quoted in virtually every major newspaper, and has been ranked by Modern Physician magazine as one of the 30 most influential physician leaders in the United States four times.

"This partnership with HCPLive provides a wonderful way for my blog to reach an even wider audience," said Bob Wachter, "HCPLive’s hospital medicine portal is a great place for hospitalists to keep up on what’s new in our field and in the broader arenas of clinical medicine and health policy."

By adding “Wachter’s World” to the network, HCPLive will be able to provide more robust content to the hospitalist audience and help keep readers informed and educated as the field of hospital medicine continues to evolve.
