Improving Patient Care Through Research and Education

Every year 80,000 resident physicians are trained in primary care and other specialties, according to the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC). Through medical research and education teaching hospitals and medical schools are improving patient care, according to AAMC.

The organization — which represents U.S. and Canadian medical schools as well as teaching hospitals and health systems — released a shiny new infographic illustrating the role that America’s medical schools and teaching hospitals play in the country’s health care system.

Last year, the AAMC surveyed Americans and found that 77% opposed cutting federal funding for teaching hospitals. And, in a time when the country has been sharply divided along political lines, the majority opposition to funding cuts for teaching hospitals was across political affiliations.

With the support of the nation already behind them, AAMC’s infographic should illustrate and convince Americans of the continue importance of teaching hospitals. The graphic shows how medical schools and teaching hospitals work together to achieve education, patient care and medical research.
