While hepatitis C is a largely treatable condition one of the biggest challenges remains identifying patients who may have the condition without even realizing it. As a result work is being done to improve testing rates to better treat this population.

While hepatitis C is a largely treatable condition one of the biggest challenges remains identifying patients who may have the condition without even realizing it. As a result work is being done to improve testing rates to better treat this population.

In emergency departments consent is required for HIV testing, but according to Uriel R. Felsen, MD, from Montefiore Health System that is not the case for other conditions like hepatitis. Felsen said while efforts are underway to change that it is a slow process that has not yet been resolved.
