US Budget Bill Boosts Funds for Lupus Education
In approving the 2014 Omnibus Appropriations Bill, the US Congress has allocated an additional $2 million to further the Lupus Initiative, a professional education program managed by the American College of Rheumatology.

It was launched last year by the US Office of Minority Health in collaboration with the US Office of Women's Health and the Surgeon General.
The new appropriation boosts funding for the Initiative by more than a third, to $6.6 million.
“Lupus remains dangerously undiagnosed, underdiagnosed and misdiagnosed, especially in our minority communities,” noted Lupus Research Institute CEO Margaret Dowd in a press release. She said the funds are intended "to train healthcare professionals, especially those on the front-lines, to spot this complex autoimmune disease early so patients can get appropriate care promptly.”
