In a time when obesity and cardiovascular disease are growing problems doctors are also working to combat diabetes at the same time. This presents opportunities for care as well as challenges in addressing the various concerns of their patients.

Vivian A. Fonseca, MD, from Tulane University said that when it comes to the connection between endocrinology and cardiology one of the best things endocrinologists do is treat their patients before they develop cardiovascular disease. Fonseca said issues like obesity have slowed in recent years which has helped, but that finding a cure for the condition is still a long way away.
