An obstetrician-gynecologist and a cardiologist discuss the inception of their joint cardiovascular care program for expecting mothers.

To commemorate World Heart Day on September 29, HCPLive sat down with a pair of collaborative clinicians whose cross-specialty interests led to a program designed to address one of the most adversely affected cardiovascular-risk populations.

Obstetrician-gynecologist Diana Wolfe, MD, MPH, and cardiologist Anna Bortnick, MD, PhD, are the co-founders of the Maternal and Fetal Medicine (MFM)-Cardiology Joint Program at Montefiore.

Established in 2015, the MFM-Cardiology referral program seeks to reduce the risk of morbidity and mortality in expecting mothers with cardiovascular disease through same-day testing and tailored care provided by a diverse team of clinicians across Wolfe’s and Bortnick’s specialties. Their care spans from pre-conception, through pregnancy and delivery, and toward post-birth disease prevention.

This week, Wolfe and Bortnick spoke with HCPLive on a litany of topics surrounding their program and MFM cardiovascular care. In the above segment, they discussed the conception of the program and the unique care team that constitutes it.
