With the weather getting warmer stinging insects like bees and wasps are becoming more of a concern for people with allergies or potential allergies. How these conditions are treated can make a significant difference in the time following stings.

John Kelso, MD, from the Scripps Clinic Carmel Valley discussed the important steps that people can do to prepare in case of a sting and then how to react if a sting occurs. Currently there are several different models of auto injector which can help patients in an emergency situation. Kelso said one of the biggest misconceptions is a "large local reaction" which does not necesarrily mean a worse reaction if the patient gets stung in the future. For those with severe allergies there are venom immunotherapies available.
