Jack LaLanne made a career for himself by inspiring people to eat healthy and exercise. The fitness guru passed away yesterday at the age of 96 after suffering respiratory failure due to pneumonia.

LaLanne leaves behind quite a legacy when it comes to the fitness and wellness. Not only was he the predecessor to many fitness personalities like Richard Simmons and Jane Fonda, but he also founded a gym chain now known as Bally Fitness and was ahead of the times when it came to weight training recommendations.

USA Today reports that, in his last blog posting less than a week ago, LaLanne wrote about keeping New Years resolutions. He was true to a healthy lifestyle until the very end, which more than likely is the reason he lived as long as he did.
