A patient at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital has tested positive for the deadly virus.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed to multiple media sources the first confirmed case of the Ebola virus in the United States.

A Washington Post story said a CBS affiliate in the Dallas-Fort Worth area reported today that a patient at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas has tested positive after being admitted to the facility on Monday. The Post quoted a statement from the hospital noting that the patient was admitted based on “symptoms and recent travel history.”

According to the statement, the hospital “is following all federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Texas Department of Heath recommendations to ensure the safety of patients, hospital staff, volunteers, physicians and visitors.”

Several Americans working overseas where the outbreak has become the worst in the virus’ known history have been transported back to the United States but this would mark the first confirmed case diagnosed in the country.
