The treatment of HIV has improved by leaps and bounds since its first diagnosis but there is still much more work to be done.

Looking at treatment today David Rosenthal, DO, PhD, from Northwell Health said patients are mainly only dying of HIV are those who are not properly taking their medication. While adherence is a problem across the board in medicine Rosenthal said it is particularly important in this patient population. As more research is being done Rosenthal said he is optimistic that there will be more treatment options available from the time patients are diagnosed and potentially ending with a cure for the disease.
