In a patient population that is likely to require many different medications for many different conditions, combination therapies may help to cut down on medication burden. While reducing the number of times a day patients need to administer medications can be helpful, Thomashow said that combining therapies can raise the cost of the regimen. He also said that, rather than coming out with new formulations of the same old medicines, what is really needed is entirely new products. The panel then listed the products currently available as single agents for COPD.
