Henke discusses his company's over-the-counter device that can be used to test for urinary tract infections, strep throat, and other conditions.

QuickCheck Health, a Minnesota-based startup, has developed an over-the-counter device that can be used to test for urinary tract infections, strep throat, and other conditions. The device, which the company plans to submit for FDA approval soon, purports to use the same assays employed by commercial labs at a fraction of the cost. We spoke with QuickCheck Health CEO Tom Henke at the Health 2.0 conference in San Francisco about issues including how he expects consumers and providers will react to OTC testing as well as how the company plans to deal with the potential problem of false negatives.
