Larry Allen, MD: The Rebirth in Heart Failure

"Heart failure is a disease that happens because of other diseases, so it's kind of the end result of diabetes, heart attacks, and cancer therapies, so it's hard to be a heart failure doctor and not spend a lot of time thinking about all the other medical specialties," concluded Allen.

Larry Allen, MD, continued discussing the rebirth in heart failure. The late 80's brought forth a number of advances that almost set the standard for patient care. But, from 2004 to 2015, there were almost no new drugs for heart failure that were approved along with many negative trials. Whereas in the last couple of years, we have had a few more drugs approved and have seen artificial hearts become more mainstream for a larger portion of the population.

"Heart failure is a disease that happens because of other diseases, so it's kind of the end result of diabetes, heart attacks, and cancer therapies, so it's hard to be a heart failure doctor and not spend a lot of time thinking about all the other medical specialties," concluded Allen.
