While technology has come a long way in the treatment of pediatric diabetes, there are still many issues that providers and patients face on a daily basis.

One of the biggest challenges in the treatment of the condition is that patients are forced to pay such close attention to their care for such a long period of time. Because of this, burnout and diabetes distress is a legitimate concern for providers and something that needs to be discussed with them and their families. Lori M. Laffel, MD, MPH, from the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, MA, said it is also important that children, whether they have diabetes or not, should pay close attention to living a healthy lifestyle in order to limit the negative impacts that can come from a sedentary lifestyle. She said another key part of that is having a healthy diet as well.
