Sounding Out Arthritis #1: Ultrasound-Guided Shoulder Injection

Video

(VIDEO) In this brief demonstration and slide show, rheumatologist Paul DeMarco MD shows how to use ultrasound to guide a glenohumeral joint injection.

Positioning technique is important in using ultrasound to guide injections into the shoulder, says Paul DeMarco MD, a partner at Arthritis and Rheumatism Associates in Wheaton MD and Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine.

Here, because rheumatologists most often want to inject into the joint space, he focuses on the glenohumeral joint.

Keep watching past the end of the demonstration to see narrated ultrasound images explaining what you would see on the monitor.
