People in the United States may not be as aware as others around the world about the need or ability to be an organ donor. While this is different depending the country the common thread is that there is a great need for donors until artificial organs become widely available.

People in the United States may not be as aware as others around the world about the need or ability to be an organ donor. While this is different depending the country the common thread is that there is a great need for donors until artificial organs become widely available.

With the technology for an artifical heart advancing every day and some current treatments providing long term symptom management Nir Uriel, MD, MSc, said there is hope for the future of this patient population. Speaking at the annual meeting of the American College of Cardiology in his hometown of Chicago, the University of Chicago doctor noted that there is much more that can be done to raise awareness of the need for organ donors until technology catches up to the need for donors.
