The MANTRA-PAF trial, A study looking at a treatment for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation reached its five year follow-up mark and the results were shared at the recent European Society of Cardiology Congress to see whether surgical or pharmaceutical treatment was better for patients.

Jens Cosedis Nielsen, DMSc, PHD, from Aarhus University Hosptial discussed the results of the second round of follow ups during the European Society of Cardiology's annual conference in London. Nielsen said that while the results of the two treatment options were similar after 2 years, by the 5 year mar patients who had undergone the surgical option showed better results.
