Medical marijuana has shown some benefits in the treatment of other health conditions, but its efficacy for patients with multiple sclerosis is still to be determined.

Stacey Cofield, PhD, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham discussed the topic during the 2015 Annual Meeting of the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers in Indianapolis. Cofield said there has been some "positive evidence," in helping with spacticity, but there have also been potential issues shown with cognition. "What we need to do is be able to study it more, to see if it is in fact effective in those areas," she noted.
