Caller ID for Telemarketers
Note:
The best way to cut back on unwantedtelemarketing calls is to sign up forthe Federal Trade Commission's (FTC)national do-not-call registry. If you havenot done that already, contact the FTC(888-382-1222; www.donotcall.gov).Until then, you can screen telemarketersthrough your caller ID. FTC rules nowrequire that caller IDs display the name ofthe company making the call or trying tomake a sale. The information must alsoinclude a phone number that consumerscan use to ask to be removed from thecompany's call list. Until now, telemarketingcalls were displayed as "out of area"on caller IDs. In areas where callerID is not available, companies do have tocomply with the new regulations.
