Some stock buyers like to build aportfolio with built-in cruise control. Wayback when, investors who wanted to buystocks and never have to worry aboutthem chose big names like AT&T, IBM,Coca-Cola, Polaroid, Xerox, and EastmanKodak. Other than IBM and Coca-Cola, which have both gone throughsome rough patches, those choices havenot done all that well. In fact, Polaroid investorslost everything after the companywent bankrupt a few years ago. Recently,however, the editors of tooka stab at choosing stocks for the buy-and-hold-forever folks. Microsoft,Pfizer, 3M, GE, Anheuser-Busch,Procter & Gamble, and Citigroup.
