Warning:

Tax scam promoters can make somebizarre claims. They may tell you thatthe 16th Amendment, which authorizedthe federal income tax, was never rati-fied, or that wages are not income.Other statements that should raise a redflag are that filing a return and payingtaxes are voluntary, or that beingrequired to file Form 1040 violates the5th Amendment right against self-incriminationor the 4th Amendmentright to privacy. Don't believe these orsimilar claims, the IRS says; they'vebeen proven false and thrown out ofcourt. If you do buy into themand the IRS nabs you, you'll be liablefor back taxes, penalties, and interest, and may even serve some time in jail.
