A recent AARP (www.aarp.org) pollhas found that many AARP members areagainst the Social Security reform proposalby President Bush. The poll revealedthat 46% of respondents strongly opposethe creation of private accounts thatwould divert money from Social Security. An additional 13% of members opposeprivate accounts entirely. Nearly half ofthe members aged 50 and older considerthe Social Security plan to be broken, butwould like to see the system reformedinstead of replacing it completely. Unfortunately,Social Security's future recipientsaren't likely to benefit from this programif drastic reform measures aren'ttaken; on its current course the funds areexpected to run dry by 2041.
