As a physician, you've seen your shareof accident victims walk through the doorsof your practice. There are many cautious-mindedpeople out there who would loveto have some insurance before they embarkon a potentially unsafe situation, suchas a commercial flight. The good news is,according to Bankrate.com, you most likelyhave an insurance policy already in yourwallet. Accidental death and dismemberment(AD&D) insurance is offered in someform with each of the four major creditcard brands—Visa, MasterCard, AmericanExpress, and Discover. The AD&D coveragediffers depending on which credit card andbrand you're using, and can insure inamounts anywhere from $100,000 to $1million. As long as you pay for your ticketwith the credit card that has AD&D insurancelocked in, you'll be automatically covered.This applies to any type of traveldeemed a "common carrier conveyance,"which includes commercial flights, trains,buses, or boats. In a worst-case scenario, itis a nice little piece of insurance that youprobably didn't even know you had. Checkwith your credit card issuer to see if yourplastic holds an AD&D policy.
