Theresa Cerulli, MD: Explaining Complex ADHD

Podcast

Complex ADHD along with other comorbid psychiatric conditions increases the risk of mortality for patients.

Complex attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) remains 1 of the most misunderstood and underdiagnosed conditions in psychiatry, particularly for adults.

For many patients, the symptoms of impulsivity and hyperactivity diminish as the patient ages. However, there are still a plethora of symptoms that make everyday tasks a challenge.

For example, many adults with complex ADHD really struggle with cognitive issues and concentration, which makes school, work, and relationships a challenge. The majority of patients also suffer from a comorbid psychiatric condition, specifically anxiety or depression.

In this episode of DocTalk, Theresa Cerulli, MD, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, discussed some of the challenges to come with complex ADHD and why it is not discussed enough.

Cerulli also explained what treatments might soon be available and why ADHD changes throughout life.
