Lori M. Laffel, MD, MPH, from the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, MA, discussed the progress made in this field in recent years. While both forms of diabetes present their own challenges, Laffel said there are things that can be done to help patients manage their symptoms to maintain a high quality of life with attention to their care by patients and providers alike.
