Researchers have found that kidney cancer in the United States has been rising steadily and, since 1991, the greatest increase has been among younger people. "From 1975 to 1990, the number of new cases increased on average by 3.6% annually, says study leader Kenneth G. Nepple, MD, a fellow in urologic oncology at Washington University in St. Louis."

Research and Markets has recently announced "the addition of GlobalData's new report 'Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC) Therapeutics - Pipeline Assessment and Market Forecasts to 2017." The report outlines the global renal cell carcinoma therapeutics market and was "built using data and information sourced from proprietary databases, primary and secondary research and in-house analysis by a team of industry experts."

Kidney Cancer Facts

1) Kidney cancer accounts for roughly 3% of all cancers.

2) There is a 1 in 75 chance you will be diagnosed with kidney cancer in your lifetime, although this risk is slightly higher in men.

3) Renal cell carcinoma is the most prevalent form of kidney cancer, but there are three additional types: Wilms' tumor, transitional cell carcinoma and renal sarcoma. Wilms’ tumor is the most common kidney cancer in children.

4) Approximately 20-30% of those treated for kidney cancer experience a recurrence, often times in the lungs and within 3 years of initial treatment. Recurrence can also take place in the previously unaffected kidney.

5) Exposure to cadmium and asbestos has been linked to kidney cancer.
