A November Calendar of Events, put together by the Alexandria tourism website, provides a wide range of events occurring during the conference, including holiday-themed events, plays, and historical exhibitions. The site provides dates, times, locations, and short descriptions of all events listed. Suggested events include “Christmas at Mount Vernon,” a Veterans Day soldier-led walking tour, and a “Late Harvest” ball.

Check out the ZAGAT page dedicated to restaurants in Alexandria and find a new place to eat every night of the conference. Nearly 100 establishments are included in this guide, covering casual and fine dining restaurants and the various cuisines that can be found in Alexandria. Each review includes directions with a map, restaurant hours, meals served, payment options, and dress codes (if applicable).

Visit the “Plan Your Visit” section of the Historic Alexandria website to explore more than 15 historic attractions worth visiting. City museums include the Lyceum (which focuses on the town’s history), the Freedom House Museum, and the U. S. Patent and Trademark Museum. This site also explores the Torpedo Factory Art Center—once a factory for making torpedoes that now houses studios for more than 160 professional artists—and Christ Church, the first church built in Alexandria and now a National Historic Landmark.

Located less than 10 minutes from Alexandria, Washington, DC also provides a trove of historical attractions, restaurants, museums, and more, if a break in the conference provides time for travel. Aside from well-known attractions such as the White House, Capitol Building, Library of Congress, and the Lincoln Memorial, Washington is also home to great restaurants, theater companies, shopping centers, and outdoor sports activities, all worth checking out here: http://washington.org/index.php.
