Perhaps one of the more notable, but underappreciated professions, is that of oncology nursing. CURE magazine's aim is to honor them through the 2008 Extraordinary Healer Award for Oncology Nursing at their May 15 event.

To recognize the extraordinary commitment of oncology nurses, Ortho Biotech Products, L. P. today announced its support of CURE magazine’s 2008 Extraordinary Healer Award for Oncology Nursing, which honors one of the thousands of exceptional oncology nurses who demonstrate daily their unwavering dedication, compassion and helpfulness. Last year, more than 200 cancer patients and survivors nominated their oncology nurse for the first Extraordinary Healer Award, presented by CURE magazine.

Cancer patients and caregivers are asked to submit essays nominating oncology nurses who exemplify these characteristics. Three finalists, and those who nominated them, will be honored at a special reception during the Oncology Nursing Society’s Annual Congress in Philadelphia on May 15 at 7pm at the Philadelphia Downtown Marriott. The call for entries is featured in the Winter 2007 and Spring 2008 issues of CURE, a quarterly magazine for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers, as well as the Spring issue of HEAL, a quarterly magazine for cancer survivors. Nominations must be received by April 7, 2008. For more information about the 2008 Extraordinary Healer Award for Oncology Nursing, visit www.curetoday.com.

"Oncology nurses provide a vital service to people affected by cancer, and Ortho Biotech is proud to be part of an effort that recognizes these exemplary professionals," said Craig Tendler, MD, Vice President, Medical Affairs, Oncology/Nephrology, Ortho Biotech Products, L.P. "Patients rely on a strong network of care while going through cancer treatment, and oncology nurses provide the critical physical and emotional support patients need to complete cancer treatment."

In 2007, CURE received more than 200 essay entries for its inaugural Extraordinary Healer Award for Oncology Nursing, and more than 650 nurses attended the award ceremony at the Oncology Nursing Society’s Annual Congress. The winning and finalist essays from 2007 can be read on line at www.curetoday.com/healeraward2007.

"The Extraordinary Healer Award has given us the opportunity to give a voice back to our readers, who openly share their admiration and appreciation for their nurses," says Melissa Weber, managing editor of CURE. "The award is a forum for our readers to say thank you, and they’re saying it quite eloquently."
