As more is learned about thyroid diseases in endocrinology one of the questions looming now is why does the thyroid hormone affect the body the way that it does. There are also questions about whether some health conditions are really tied to the hormone or another part of the anatomy.

Antonio C. Bianco, MD, PhD, from Rush University Medical Center has been deeply involved in researching this topic for many years and said a lot has been learned about helping this patient population. Because different parts of the body react differently to thyroid hormones Bianco said there are many areas that need to be studied to provide the best results possible for patients.
