Summer is for Smoothies

Blending nutritional drinks in the summer

The blender can be your patients’ best friend in summer. Recommend this easy recipe for a cool, delicious nutritional boost that’s loaded with calcium, potassium, and antioxidants:

½ cup Kefir (a fermented milk drink; water or fruit juice also may be used)
6 oz nonfat yogurt
Strawberries, raspberries, and/or blueberries
½ banana

Add ice and blend….delicious. For an added protein boost, throw in one measure of whey, rice, or egg white protein powder. (Total calories without protein powder: about 250. Many protein powders are about 100 calories and 20 g of protein per provided scoop, but check the label.)
