Fighting Junk Faxes
Whether the recently enacted ban onspam e-mail does any good is yet to beseen, but junk faxes are clearly illegal andthe folks in Washington, DC, are doingsomething about them. California-basedFax.com recently got slammed with a$5.3-million fine for violating anti-junk-faxlaws. If you receive too manyunwanted fax messages on your office faxmachine, your first step is to contact thesender and ask to be deleted from thecalling list. Second offenses should bereported to the Federal CommunicationCommission. You can e-mail the agencyat [email protected]. If the offender isfound guilty, the result may be more thanjust a slap on the wrist; violators can befined up to $11,000 per offense.
