Multiple countries in the European Union (EU) have suspended use of the AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine.

Despite EU medicine regulators urging them to think twice about the decision, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Bulgaria, Ireland and the Netherlands decided to follow through due to concerns that the vaccine was causing a rare combination of blood clots and lowered levels of blood platelets.

In Hong Kong, due to a good rollout of their inoculation program, officials have announced an expansion of the priority groups allowed for vaccination. Individuals aged 30-59, domestic workers and students aged 16 and older who are studying abroad will now be able to get a shot. The city now expects to cover around 5.5 million of its nearly 7 million population.

Lastly, due to fears of a third wave of COVID-19 hitting Europe, many governments are beginning to reinstate measures that were used earlier on in the pandemic to try and halt the spread.

On Monday, much of Italy went into lockdown that is expected to last through the Easter weekend. Likewise, France has also begun to add more restrictions like curfews after a surge in cases was seen within the Paris region.
