With so many specialists dedicated to advancing the field, it hard to find a leading cardiologist not wearing a multitude of hats within their own institutions. Among these luminaries is On Chen, MD, of Stony Brook University.

At Stony Brook University and Stony Brook University Hospital, Chen serves as a clinical assistant professor of medicine and as the director of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and Telemetry Units, Outpatient Cardiology Services, and the Advanced Lipid Management program. Board-certified in internal medicine, interventional cardiology, nuclear cardiology, and echocardiography, Chen has gained a unique perspective and experience that leaves him uniquely qualified to provide practical insight and perspective on multiple aspects of the care continuum for patients with cardiovascular disease in real-world settings.

During their time on-site at the American Heart Association 2022 Scientific Sessions in Chicago, Il, The Heart Team hosts Jorge Plutzky, MD, director of preventive cardiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Michael Farkouh, MD, Peter Munk Chair in Multinational Clinical Trials at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, recorded 4 special edition episodes with leaders in cardiovascular medicine, including Chen. During their discussion with Chen, which occurred on day 2 of the 3-day meeting, our hosts learn more about how his professional passions have influenced his journey to his current roles at Stony Brook University. Chen also takes our hosts on a deep dive into the clinical processes at his institution, his prescribing preferences, and his perspective on some of the latest advances in lipidology.
