Kunihiro Hattori

Kunihiro Hattori, PhD, is a mentor with the Japan International Drug Discovery Ecosystem Association. He spent 40 years at Chugai Pharmaceutical. He joined in 1984 and went on to lead the Genome and Antibody Research Department and later the Discovery Research Department. He then served as a fellow and as associate vice president and senior fellow until 2024. From 2017 to 2024, he was also a visiting professor at the Immunology Frontier Research Center at Osaka University. Hattori originated the concept of a bispecific antibody to replace the function of factor VIII and led the research project that produced emicizumab. He earned his PhD from the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Osaka University.
