
Lasker Award winners Kunihiro Hattori, Takehisa Kitazawa, and Tomoyuki Igawa recount the 2400 variants behind the drug.

Tomoyuki Igawa, PhD, is executive officer and head of the research division at Chugai Pharmaceutical. He joined Chugai in 2001 and has led its Biologics Research Department and Translational Research Division. He also served as CEO and research head of Chugai Pharmabody Research in Singapore. Igawa led the molecular design of emicizumab and the technologies for manufacturing bispecific antibodies efficiently. He invented several of Chugai’s antibody engineering technologies, which are used in satralizumab, crovalimab, and nemolizumab. He earned his PhD in chemical system engineering from the University of Tokyo.
